LGBTQ community members and allies gathered at Ann Sather restaurant on March 7 to support Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx's re-election campaign. The event precedes the March 17 primary elections.
Speaking at the event, Equality Illinois Director of Communications and Press Secretary Myles Brady Davis touched on topics like criminal justice reform and justice for the transgender community. "We need a fighter and champion for the LGBTQ community," Davis said. "I commend State's Attorney Kim Foxx for her response to the epidemic of trans violence in Cook County. She has listened to trans advocates and representatives of LGBTQ organizations and she has stepped up to the plate to help serve my community."
State Rep. Lamont Robinson offered similar praise. "Kim has been a friend to the LGBTQ community. And when a friend needs your help, what should we do? We should help. And we should stand with them," he said. "We know that we have someone that is looking out for our community."
In remarks to the gathering, Foxx focused on her accomplishments and work with the LGBTQ community.
"When I got into this office, it was this community and the strength I have gathered from them that I wanted to make sure we were not causing harm where we should be causing help," Foxx said. "We believe that every civil rights issue that touches our community needs the top prosecutor to stand up and say 'we stand in alignment with you.' That we recognize there are intersections to all of this. That there's not just being LGBTQ; it means being Black, Latino, poorthat all of those things come together. [The] fight for justice for one community is a fight for justice for all of our communities."
