WASHINGTON Today the Human Rights Campaign responded to the tragic news of the passing of legendary LGBT advocate George Zander.
"I was deeply saddened to learn of George Zander's passing today," said HRC President Chad Griffin. "George was an incredible leader who used his passion, energy, and innumerable talents to fight for equality and justice for all. He devoted his life to making our world a better and fairer place, and in turn inspired many others to do the same. George was also a devoted and loving husband, and my heart is heavy for his husband Chris, and the many others who knew and loved him."
"George was not only a truly tireless advocate for the LGBT community, but he was also my friend," said HRC board member and Palm Springs resident Andy Linsky. "He was my 'go to guy' for insight and to discuss matters of local importance, and I always valued his advice and counsel. I, along with our entire HRC Palm Springs Steering Committee, will miss him dearly. Our thoughts are with his husband, Chris, at this time of profound sorrow."
Zander, who along with his husband, was the recent victim of an attack being investigated as a hate crime, was a very active and prominent member of the Coachella Valley's LGBT community, and was serving as regional field director for Equality California. The entire HRC community mourns the passing of this unique and remarkable leader. |
