All eight of the city's Commission on Human Relations advisory councils have come together to oppose Mayor Emanuel's budget proposal to funnel the city's councils into just three.
The councils will voice their opposition at City Hall on Friday morning at a special press conference, they announced in a press release.
"Our objection rests on ground on principle and finance," said Gary Chichester, member of the council on LGBT issues. "The cuts will belie Chicago's historic commitment of more than 60 years to an inclusive and nondiscriminatory City, an image that the City government ought to project and regret."
As proposed, the budget combines the current councils on African, Arab, Asian, Immigrant and Refugee, Latino, LGBT, Veterans and Women Issues in just three councils.
Members of those councils, including Chicago's LGBT council, have vociferously opposed the changes.
Denise Lam, a spokesperson for the group who sits on the council on Asian Affairs, confirmed that all eight of the councils signed off on the press release opposing the cuts.
Their press conference will be held at City Hall, 121 N. LaSalle, in the 2nd floor elevator lobby on Friday, Oct. 28 at 9:00 a.m.
