After 18 years of service, long-time LGBT ally Clarence Wood is stepping down as chair of the Chicago Commission on Human Relations.
Wood has been dedicated to the local LGBT community over the years, having helped create the Commission on Human Relation's Advisory Council on LGBT Issues. This led to the creation of the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame in 1991. It is the first and only city-sponsored hall of fame of its kind.
Interim Deputy Police Sup. Dana Starks will replace Wood. Starks replaced Sup. Philip Cline when he retired this summer. Wood will continue his work as president and CEO of Jane Addams Hull House Association, where he has been since 2000.
