Heartland Alliance Policy & Advocacy joins our partners at the U.S. Committee on Refugee and Immigrants to call on the president and his administration to maintain U.S. leadership through the Refugee Admissions Program.
Since our inception in 1888, Heartland Alliance has worked to support the rights, needs, and human potential of people who have been displaced and are in need. We believe that everyone has the right to safety and dignity. The administration's newest executive order stands in the way of those values, adding additional barriers for refugees seeking safety and the communities that welcome them.
The president's new executive order will mean that many refugees and their families who are in danger will need to restart the vetting processmaking security for these families more elusive and splitting up families. Instead of creating new barriers for people struggling to survive, the United States' response should be one of compassion.
"Heartland Alliance believes society is better for everyone when all can participate, prosper and reach their full potential. We stand with the over 65 million people throughout the world seeking protection and call on the United States to live up to its history and values.", said Sam Tuttle, director of policy and advocacy ."Now is not the time for the U.S. to step away from role as a humanitarian leader." We stand ready to welcome refugeesregardless of their religion or country of originto our communities as we have for generations.
Join us in standing up for refugees and letting the White House know that you do not support this lengthy and burdensome process that puts thousands at risk. #refugeeswelcome #Welcome75k #refugees
