I am writing this letter to the editor in response to the press release that was printed in the present online issue of Windy City Times. The press release ("Program for LGBTQ people/families pushed by Archdiocese of Detroit are harmful, say Catholic groups") deals with a deeply rooted policy of the Church that evil has no rights. "The master's tools will never dismantle the master's house."
The nightmarish sense of deja vu in reading this press release speaks to issue of rampant homophobia and all we can do is talk about it or send out press releases.
If we are sincere in our efforts to deal with the abuse of innocents in the Church, we must be willing to put our faith in the Lord and turn to prayer as our guide for our actions, and practice humility.
We cannot only point fingers organizationally and cherry-pick how we are going to deal these evilsif not by prayer, then by what? We must effectively speak out in the body of the Church, or things will not change.
This is not to say I disagree with this press release; it just means we have to learn from our history that love, and not clericalism, rules our Church or should rule it. Perhaps I am getting too old but reading the press release it seemed like a broken record. If I have offended any that was not my intent; please forgive me.
The first step toward change will be power and momentum of movement.
God Bless,
