LEATHERLIFE

Spring Malaise

by Cain Berlinger

It's difficult to write about leather politics when world politics is so volatile. I suggest catching the Oscar-winning movie Bowling for Columbine. Whatever your political stance, please offer a prayer for our men and women in our armed services and a speedy recovery to this conflict.

In the interest of brevity please check out these important Web sites: www.americanbrotherhood.com for details on the April in Washington, American Brotherhood Weekend with new additions and surprises. Guy Baldwin's followup to his speech last year on the state of the leather community is now available at www.leatherpage.com . Agree or disagree, but a must read.

Meanwhile IML marches down the runway in May celebrating its 25th anniversary while at the same host hotel (Palmer House Hilton, Empire ballroom. Check www.mrcain.com for details) legendary porn star Bobby Blake will co-MC with Queen Cougar at the Mr. Ebony Leather Contest.

Come May, when Chicago fills up with titleholders and community representatives, I'm hoping that everyone knows IML and Ebony leather are NOT beauty contests, but a gauge of the state of the community they represent. Through a vigorous judging interview, the contestants are questioned on their leather lifestyle involvement and knowledge of the leather community in general. If you are community conscious and you want to be a part of the representation and the continuity of our lifestyles, maybe you are titleholder material. Titles come with responsibility and accountability at a time when identity is so important, and standing on the sidelines becomes less of an option. Who will YOU identify with?

And on a fiscal note ... .

A lot has been written about tax reform throughout 2002 as it jumped to the top of the list of national legislative priorities in the U.S. Congress. One particular aspect was the debate over the permanent repeal of the death tax. To find out why this may be of particular interest to you check out this Web site: www.libertyeducationforum.org

Should your hanky color match your walls dept.?

The color of your walls can influence your mood as well as your taste. Red increases your blood pressure, heartbeat and energy, instilling feelings of intimacy, passion, sexuality and appetite (which is why it's used a lot in restaurants and diningrooms).

Orange, like red, tends to warm a room in a more warm and friendly way. Blue and Green make us feel calm and tranquil—ideal for bedrooms (also suppresses appetite). Few people like violets, but children's rooms do well with the color. Just a little tidbit in the FYI section.

___

And for the feel good finale:

Run, do not walk, If you have not already seen the multi Oscar winning CHICAGO! The choreography by director Rob Marshall (not Bob Fosse) is intense. Best Supporting Actress Catherine Zeta amazed me (What in god's name is she doing in those Sprint commercials??). It's a return to old Hollywood musicals, and you'll feel like dancing' for at least two hours!

Got something to say? Write me. Meanwhile visit my Web site at www.mrcain.com
