A diverse group of supporters, mostly women, convened inside the Garfield Park Conservatory, 300 N. Central Park, to explore indoor gardens with lush ferns, desert cactuses and exotic flowers. The annual women's fundraiser for Howard Brown Health Center's Lesbian Community Care Project came to fruition May 16 as hundreds of attendees enjoyed the scenery.
The change of venue and yearly time was months in the planning for this year's co-chairs: Tamara Allen, Kat Fitzgerald, Dalila Fridi and Melissa Mansfield. VIP ticket holders enjoyed a private reception in the Labyrinth while guests were given complete access to walk around and experience various rooms like the Palm House, Aroid House and Desert House, which led to the Dessert Lounge. In each landscape was a different musical act, from Jeannie Tanner's jazz quartet to Latin beats with Sandra Ivelisse Antongiorgi. Another visual highlight was a body-painted nymph ( painted by Dana Lloyd ) who darted around. Throngs of guests then ended the night with the after-party at Oak Park's Velvet Rope. In addition, there was a VIP reception May 15.
