U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk has asked the FBI's Chicago office for additional support at the June 26 Pride parade, according to NBC 5.
Kirk, on June 15, asked FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge David W. Paun have a plan ensuring attendees' safety in the wake of the shooting in the Orlando nightclub Pulse in the early morning of June 12.
"Given the importance of the LGBT community to my constituency in Chicago, Illinois, I want to make sure that you and your team in the Federal Bureau of Investigation Chicago field office offer the maximum security possible so that, in the wake of the Orland massacre, we can have the safest Pride Parade ever," Kirk said in the letter, which additionally directed Paun to coordinate "a strong message of safety" with Equality Illinois CEO Brian Johnson.
DNA Info meanwhile reported that Boystown police levels are at their highest level since 2013. Chicago Police Department has added 52 new officers45 of them in 2016for a total of 378 sworn officers in the Town Hall Police District. Alds. Tom Tunney and James Cappleman and Mayor Rahm Emanuel promised additional patrols for the area by the end of 2016.
