CHICAGO August 2, 2017 Tickets are available now for an exclusive screening and discussion with Ken Burns and Lynn Novick to preview their new 10-part documentary The Vietnam War, in advance of its premiere on WTTW11 and wttw.com in September 2017. The event is presented by WTTW/Chicago PBS, in partnership with the Auditorium Theatre.
The Vietnam War: An Evening With Ken Burns and Lynn Novice will take place on Thursday, Sept. 7 at Chicago's Auditorium Theatre, 50 E. Congress Parkway, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
In an immersive narrative ten years in the making, Burns and Novick tell the epic story of the Vietnam War as it has never before been told on film. View clips at the link: video.wttw.com/show/vietnam-war . During this special evening, Burns and Novick will discuss the "making of" of the film, show excerpts from the 18-hour masterpiece, and answer questions from the audience.
"Not since the Civil War have we as a country been so torn apart," Burns said. "More than 40 years after it ended, we can't forget Vietnam, and we are still arguing about why it went wrong, who was to blame and whether it was all worth it. There was no way we could avoid telling this story; this is, without a doubt, the most ambitious project we've ever undertaken."
"We are all searching for some meaning in this terrible tragedy. Ken and I have tried to shed new light on the war by looking at it from the bottom up, the top down and from all sides," Novick said. "Within this almost incomprehensibly destructive event, we discovered profound, universal human truths, as well as uncanny resonances with recent events."
Get tickets at the link: interactive.wttw.com/events/2017-09-07-233000/vietnam-war-evening-ken-burns-lynn-novick to hear from them in person! The Vietnam War premieres Sunday, Sept. 17 - Thursday, Sept. 21 and Sunday, Sept. 24 - Thursday, Sept. 28 on WTTW11 and wttw.com/watch .
