Chrissy Gephardt, daughter of Congressman and former presidential candidate Richard Gephardt, has won a slot on Showtime's new political reality series The American Candidate. American Candidate will attempt to identify one individual from a select few who has the qualifications and qualities to be the 'American Candidate' through a series of competitions.
Longtime national Black gay activist Keith Boykin is also among the candidates.
Over the course of 10 weeks, contestants on American Candidate will face off in a series of challenges designed to test their presidential mettle and to show viewers what really goes on in the making of a presidential candidate. Week-by-week, the original pool of candidates will be winnowed down. The show begins in August.
Cruise Ship Welcomed
in The Bahamas
Problems that were expected when Carnival Cruise Lines' 'Gay Days Cruise' ship arrived in the Bahamas June 1 did not materialize, The Nassau Guardian reported.
'In fact, the only activists anywhere near the Festival Place welcome centre were members of the Rainbow Alliance, who, along with allies, set up a welcoming committee,' the newspaper reported.
Earlier reports suggested the ship's arrival would be protested by members of the Bahamas Christian Council and other church organizations, as was the case when three gay/lesbian cruises visited in 1998.
