On Sept. 20 in Chicago, U.S. District Judge Charles Norgle ruled against an emergency order from Planned Parenthood that would allow the organization to open a clinic in Aurora that would provide abortions ( among other health-care services ) , according to The Chicago Tribune.
Planned Parenthood was set to open a 22,000-square-foot, $7.5 million clinic on Sept. 18; however, the City of Aurora decided against the opening, pending an investigation as to how the organization obtained its building permit. Planned Parenthood has said that it applied for a permit under a different name ( Gemini Office Development LLC ) , but insisted that it did nothing illegal.
Norgle also said that Planned Parenthood could file an amended document if the group can show that the building was targeted because abortion services would be offered, according to the Daily Herald.
Aurora officials and pro-life advocates lauded Norgle's ruling. Eric Scheidler of the Pro-Life Action League said that the decision was 'a victory for life and a victory for choice.'
