Illinois Senate president Emil Jones will be among the honorees recognized by the Chicago Foundation for Women at the Ripple Effect Awards. The reception will be held Jan. 27 in the Lincoln Ballroom ( 33rd floor ) of the Sears Tower, 233 S. Wacker, 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Jones—who was instrumental in the recent passage of the gay-rights bill in the upper chamber—will be honored for playing a crucial role in providing the foundation with an Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity Illinois First Grant worth $500,000. Jones is the first male and the first political figure to ever receive the award.

Traditionally, the awards recognize women and girls who embody strength and triumph when provided opportunity. Among the other recipients are Carol Markopulos of Sarah's Circle; Karen Boyd of the Health Resource Center for Women with Disabilities; and Pier Moore of Better Existence with HIV.

Call ( 312 ) 836-0126, ext. 229.
