On Dec. 13, 103.5 KISS FM’s Jingle Ball 2017 Presented by Capitol One packed the Allstate Arena in Rosemont. Performers included The Chainsmokers, Demi Lovato (accompanied by Cheat Codes), Halsey, Charlie Puth, Kesha, Camila Cabello, Liam Payne, Julia Michaels and Why Don’t We.

Several artists stopped to talk with Windy City Times on the red carpet and take photos.

It has been a huge year for Cheat Codes, thanks to a hit with Demi Levato called “No Promises.” Drake was mentioned as someone they would like to work with in the future. The group’s Matthew Russell unsurprisingly encouraged people to see Cheat Codes perform live, adding, “We play every type of music in our set and it is high energy. We sing, and DJ playing hip-hop, dance and every type of music. No matter what your background, you will love it!” The trio plan on recording new music in January.

The new boy band Why Don’t We’s members are 16 to 19, and are from all parts of the country. They said they admired the original boy band, The Beatles. Why Don’t We are working on their debut album in the new year, and are beginning a tour in February.

Julia Michaels was asked about gay “Issues” (playing off of her hit song) she said, “Politically gay people are not getting the best love and I think that is a shame, but I am very proud of Australia for passing the Equality Act.” She has worked several times with out songwriter Justin Tranter and described him as “the best.” In 2018 she is touring with Niall Horan and Maroon 5.

Standout performances included Kesha with classic song “Take It Off” and Halsey teaming with The Chainsmokers for “Closer.” Spotted in the diverse crowd were a couple of gay audience members holding hands with Kesha rainbow jackets. (Note: Kesha took photos exclusively for Windy City Times.)

The concert donates $1.00 from each ticket to the Ryan Seacrest Foundation going to his organization inspiring youth through entertainment and education. Visit RyanSeacrestFoundation.org for more.
