Hundreds of young leaders from city and suburban high schools will gather Friday, April 19 at 5:30 p.m. for the Illinois Safe Schools Alliance's Night of Noise. The annual event celebrates the strength of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning and allied (LGBTQA) youth community.
The Night of Noise follows the Day of Silence, which recognizes the violence, harassment, and discrimination faced by LGBTQA youth in schools. Students will take the stage to break the silence and talk about their Day of Silenceexperience, and to ask Chicago Public Schools to pass policies supporting and protecting transgender and gender non-conforming students.
Night of Noise takes place at The Thompson Center, 100 West Randolph St.
The Alliance and the Alliance Youth Committee is requesting public support for current efforts to advocate for the passage of policies that would outline support for transgender and gender non-conforming students.
