The Hollywood Museum celebrated Pride Month with a third annual Reel to Reel: Portrayals and Perceptions of Gays in Hollywood ceremony on June 9.
More than 10,000 show business treasure pack the space on 1660 N. Highland Ave. Costumes from newer television shows like Transparent and Orange is the New Black are now included. Films represented ranged from Cabaret to the recent Danish Girl.
During a reception, Los Angeles City Council member Mitch O'Farrell spoke of the importance of the exhibit that is running through Sept. 4.
Museum founder/president Donelle Dadigan brought attention to the work of gay advocate Cyndi Lauper, who donated several costumes. Comedian Judy Tenuta later read a letter from Lauper who was unable to attend.
Actress Julie Newmar mentioned how many of the audience may have dressed up like her at one point or another. She said she is always grateful to have the support of the LGBT community.
The night concluded with guests visiting the many exhibits that brought out the stylings of gay icons like Cher, Liza Minnelli, and Lily Tomlin in the historic Max Factor building.
Where else in the world can you find Bette Midler's Delores DeLago fishtail?
Visit TheHollywoodMuseum.com for more information on the museum and exhibit.
