Human trafficking survivor performs "7 Layers Captive"

Chicago, IL - Human trafficking claims an estimated 27 million victims worldwide, producing nearly $31 billion in revenue each year through the largest exploitation of innocent men, women, and children ever seen in history. In the United States alone, an estimated 100,000-300,000 children are trafficked every year. These terrifying facts uphold the fact that we as human beings must recognize our duty to aid those who are enslaved without protection or a voice. Loyola University of Chicago's chapter of Free the Slaves partners with the Sun Gate Foundation to present Human Trafficking Week 2015 during the week of January 26 — January 30 in order to bring greater awareness through a variety of events designed to both commemorate victims of human trafficking and educate participants about the severity of the issue.

Witness the true story and groundbreaking performance of sex trafficking survivor Stacy Jewell Lewis as she recounts her abduction from her home to the underground world of sex trafficking in her one woman play — "7 Layers Captive". This play was rated second to the Lion King is the 2014 DC Black Film Festival.

ABOUT LOYOLA'S CHAPTER OF FREE THE SLAVES: Free the Slaves, Loyola Chicago, is the first college chapter of the international nonprofit, Free the Slaves. Our goal is to raise awareness among students about the issue of human trafficking and play our part in ending slavery/human trafficking in our lifetime. The chapter contains Alicia Hanawalt, president, Kelli McCallum, vice president, and Shamere McKenzie, the CEO of Sun Gate Foundation, in addition to a number of Loyola students passionate about making a difference.
