Just two weeks after receiving word that her position would not be cut, LGBT Hate Crime Victim Specialist Anne Huffman, has left the State's Attorney's office.
Huffman, who was slated to be cut amid outcry from LGBT advocates and was later reinstated, has left her position to become the new Manager of the Anti-Violence Project at Center on Halsted.
"I had a great nine years there, and I am looking forward to continuing my work in the community," Huffman told Windy City Times. "I was very constrained in my old job in that I could only work with people who had entered the criminal justice system."
Huffman replaces Edwin Corbin-Gutierrez, who is moving on to another position at the Center on Halsted, according to Brian Richardson, spokesperson for the Center.
The move may come as a surprise to some. The LGBT community rallied around Huffman after news broke that her position had been cut. Huffman said, the fight was not to keep her, but to keep the position.
Huffman said that her move had nothing to do with her near layoff in November."The timing was just right," she said.
Huffman's old position has been retained by the State's Attorney's office.
