Chicagoan Jennifer Hudson keeps piling up the honors, as she won the Screen Actors Guild Award in an event televised on Jan. 28. The former American Idol finalistwho is the front-runner to capture the Oscar in her categorywon the award for her role as Effie in Dreamgirls.
The acting honors went to front-runners in all the categories: Forest Whitaker ( best actor for The Last King of Scotland ) , Helen Mirren ( best actress for The Queen ) and Eddie Murphy ( best supporting actor for Dreamgirls ) .
However, in the best picture category, Little Miss Sunshine took the awardtopping, among others, Babel ( which took the best drama statue two weeks ago at the Golden Globes ) and Dreamgirls ( which did not receive an Oscar nod for best picture, but won the Golden Globe for best comedy or musical ) .
On the television side of the awards, Grey's Anatomy won best dramatic series. Grey's co-star Chandra Wilson, accepting the award for best actress in a drama, said, 'It's about those 10 cast members sitting over there, and the other one in rehab.'
America Ferrera prevailed in the best comedic actress category for Ugly Betty. Other TV winners included Alec Baldwin ( best comedic actor for 30 Rock ) , Hugh Laurie ( best dramatic actor for House ) and The Office ( best comedy series ) .
Julie Andrews received the Screen Actors Guild Awards 43rd Annual Life Achievement Award.
Noah's Arc to Hit Theaters
Logo, a division of MTV Networks, has announced that it plans to bring Noah's Arc, its hit flagship series about four African-American gay friends in Los Angeles, to the silver screen in 2008 as Logo's first original theatrical film.
Noah's Arc will join Sex and the City, Star Trek and The Simpsons as yet a fan-driven series that finds a home at the multiplex. Currently in development, the film is expected to pick up after the show's second season cliffhanger finale and continue with an even bolder and provocative storyline. The film will leave the door open for sequels, additional television seasons and specials.
The series is created by and executive produced by Patrik-Ian Polk and his Tall Skinny Black Boy Productions. Polk, who make his feature-film debut with the independent movie Punks, is expected to share producing duties on the Noah's Arc film with series co-executive producer Carol Ann Shine.
