Howard Brown names HIV specialist Cori Blum, MD, as site medical director

( Chicago, IL, October 1, 2015 ) — Today, Howard Brown Health Center ( Howard Brown ) announced that Dr. Cori Blum, MD, AAHIVS, has been named Site Medical Director for the Sheridan Road Clinic. Dr. Blum, an accomplished HIV specialty provider and family physician, will begin seeing patients at Howard Brown on October 15.
"Dr. Blum is an esteemed leader in public health, akin to a 'wellness rock star.' As a leader in reproductive justice, public health and HIV medicine in Chicago, her experience in the field will greatly augment the innovative and forward-thinking healthcare services that Howard Brown offers," said Magda Houlberg, MD, Chief Clinical Officer for Howard Brown Health Center. "We are very pleased to welcome Dr. Blum to our Medical Services team, and we look forward to supporting her vital work for people living with HIV as well as the rest of the communities we serve."
As the Site Medical Director for Howard Brown's Sheridan Road Clinic, Dr. Blum will be key to Howard Brown's reproductive and HIV care initiatives. Dr. Blum is a family physician dedicated to urban community health justice, with special interest in the areas of reproductive and adolescent health and HIV medicine. Dr. Blum was most recently the HIV/STI Medical Director for the Chicago Department of Public Health and continues her faculty positions at the University of Illinois at Chicago Department of Family Medicine and the Midwest AIDS Training & Education Center ( MATEC ), a federally-funded training center providing AIDS and HIV clinical training and support to healthcare professionals.
Dr. Blum has been honored by American Academy of HIV Medicine and the Association of Reproductive Health, and has presented countless lectures and participated in panels covering topics such as Pregnancy Options Counseling, Reproductive Health Integration in the U.S.: Family Planning & HIV/STDs, Incorporating HIV Prevention into the Care of Persons Living with HIV, and STIs and HIV in Women and Girls. She is currently an advisor for the Midwest HIV Prevention & Pregnancy Planning Initiative ( MHPPPI ), a collaborative project convened by the AIDS Foundation of Chicago that aims to increase knowledge about HIV prevention and pregnancy planning for HIV-impacted communities and their healthcare providers. She is also a co-convener of Chicago's HIV Sexual & Reproductive Health Coalition.
