Howard Brown Health Center announced on Aug. 16 that James Thomas ( Tom ) Barrett, M.D., has been named Howard Brown's chief medical officer, effective immediately. Barrett replaces Dr. Leigh Roberts.
Barrett, a state-licensed physician and surgeon, has been a medical provider at Howard Brown since 2000, and has been instrumental in the development and implementation of many programs, including the HIV/Hepatitis C co-infection treatment protocol; the transgender health program; and Institute for Healthcare Improvement initiatives in HIV and depression, according to a press release. In addition, Barrett is the sub-investigator on all clinical studies at the center and primary investigator on several ongoing research studies.
'I look forward to this new role,' Barnett declared in the statement. 'I truly believe in the work that Howard Brown does, and I hope that I can help to inspire the next generation of providers who come to Howard Brown believing as I do that everyone deserves quality healthcare.'
