On Marchar 25, Tanara Golston and Brooke Benson led the No. 2-seeded Hoopsters to a 57-46 win over the Young Guns in the championship game of the Chicago Metropolitan Sports Association ( CMSA ) women's basketball A-Division.
The Young Guns played a physical first half that helped them to a halftime lead. However, the second-half shooting of Jess Wilhite and Paige Harris, along with the inside play of Nicole McBean and clutch closing shots by Golston and Benson, put the Hoopsters ahead to stay.
Meanwhile, Guurl Trouble defeated Cheetah 40-30 to claim the B-Division championship.
Guurl Trouble dominated the first half with rebounding and good shot selection. Cheetah moved the ball well, but their shots weren't falling. Guurl Trouble lead for the complete game. Guurl Trouble maintained a strong effort into the second half, but Cheetah pulled within three points late in the game. But that's the closest they got.
Guurl Trouble was by Leilondi McCoy, Denise Robinson and Nicole Cole.
'It was another successful year,' said Yvette Holt who, with Teri Rahn, served as co-director. 'We had a record 20 teams total in the leagues this year. Many players comment that its the best league around.
'Both semifinals and the finals themselves were all close games with the final scores not being reflective of the rest of the game.'
