The Treatment Action Group ( TAG ) , one of the leading worldwide organizations in AIDS research advocacy, will host its 13th annual Research in Action Awards, a benefit honoring individuals who have made a significant impact in AIDS research and activism.
The 2009 Research in Action Awards ( RIAA ) event will take place in New York City in the Gallery of the historic Astor Center ( located at 399 Lafayette St ) on Sunday, December 13 from 6:00 — 8:00 PM. The event will be hosted by Jenna Wolfe of NBC's weekend TODAY.
In its thirteenth year, TAG is proud to present its 2009 RIAA Awards to: Professor Michel D. Kazatchkine, M.D., Executive Director of The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, who will be presented with his award by TAG's Executive Director Mark Harrington; Dr. Trip Gulick, Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases and Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College and New York-Presbyterian Hospital, who will receivehis award from humorist and radio personality David Rakoff; author, columnist and activist Simon Doonan, Creative Director of Barney's New York, whose award will be presented by POZ magazine's Editor Regan Hofmann; and Tony and Emmy Award winning actor David Hyde Pierce, who will receive his award from Tom Viola, Executive Director of Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS.
The 2009 RIAA TAG Limited Edition will be an artist's edition of 20 generously donated by artist Donald Moffett, reknowned for his visual works addressing the AIDS catastrophe.
Founded in 1992, TAG fights to ensure that all people living with HIV receive the necessary treatment, care, and information they need to save their lives. Today, 25 years into this global pandemic, TAG remains the only organization in the world dedicated to AIDS research advocacy for better treatments, a vaccine, and cure for AIDS.
