As I trudge endlessly on toward a sober, Scrabble-playing existence, I find I've cut certain behaviors out of my oeuvre. Last night was a grand exception; a blast from my not-incredibly-distant past. Feels good to know I've still got it.
The monkey business began at The Hideaway. I ran into Bobby and Momma, whom I hadn't seen in a while. Momma has just retired and, at the ripe young age of 65, still knows how to unwind. Just look at her go.
Speaking of looking—get ready to salivate like the hungry dogs you are. Check out Felix, the Hideaway bartender in The Spread. Wouldn't you like to see him on the cover? Please email me your pleas, so that I may convince him to grace us with his face ( and other assorted goods ) .
When in Rome, go to Nutbush as well. I had a fascinating conversation with two slightly older gentlemen about gay mentoring. The history they reflected was fascinating. Really grounded me.
And I needed it. Next stop was Jackhammer, and all the requisite madness. Andy and Ray make quite a photogenic pair, huh? And they get pretty handy after hours. The less said, the better.
So I survived. And all the better for it.
Some of our local watering holes are not so lucky. The fate of Madrigal's remains uncertain and The Pour House has been sold after 32 years. But fear not. The Annex 3 will still be with us, under the new moniker/motif of 3160. Revamped as a cabaret lounge, this new kid on the block will provide world-class entertainment expected of Jim Flint and family!
