. This week, Nightspots seeks to answer that eternal question: who would win in a game of checkers between Madonna and Prince? As it turns out, the good money's on the Material Girl. First time I ever saw a queen king Prince. To see queens and Princes of your own, check 'er out at Berlin the first Sunday of every month for Madonna*rama and the last Sunday for Prince Nation. Respect yourself enough to party like it's 1999.
Speaking of The Purple One, Larry at Clark's never ceases to rock my world. Thanks for the sweet gift, Larry. I'll watch it with someone I love ( sexy ) .
Why is it every time I meet a cute guy, he picks up and splits for California? Well, not really. But Chris from Creaoke is. After 26 years, he's had all he can take from this fair city. So off he goes into the blue. Thanks for that pack of cigarettes, Chris.
Ain't it nice how folks from all the competitive local fag rags can hang with no animosity? It warms my cockles, alright. Check out pic
ture #2 from Hydrate. It features me ( from Nightspots ) , Fausto Fernós ( from Chicago Free Press ) and Jason ( from [ competitive magazine name omitted ] ) . I do so love to kick back and read [ competitive magazine name omitted ] . Yes, interesting articles in [ competitive magazine name omitted ] . And the photos in [ competitive magazine name omitted ] always turn out brilliantly. My favorite part of [ competitive magazine name omitted ] is Jason's column. Especially when he mentions Nightspots.
Back at'cha.
My old friend Al stopped in randomly from New York this past week. Excited I was to catch up with 'my hooker.' For old times sake, we decided to go to Spin for What-The-Fuck Wednesday, as was our weekly ritual when we were wee lads of 25. I don't know what changed between 25 and 30, but it was so crowded and hot, I nearly had a panic attack. Be warned, chillens—it'll happen to you, too.
I told Ken God bless you for having such a successful night, but that I couldn't stay. Apparently, that's why you'll find Ken working the door on Wednesdays!
After the maddening moment that was Spin, how refreshing to stop into Cocktail. Nothing but air conditioning and free tables. We nearly plotzed.
My friend Bon Bon ( a.k.a. Elizabeth ) introduced me to a special young man at @mosphere. His name is Ronnie and he is a male breast cancer survivor. Like most, you might be thinking that you have never heard of men getting breast cancer. Well, it happens. We'll be talking with Ronnie next week to find out more about male breast cancer and what you can do to keep yourself healthy.
Join me in wishing Alma Mendoza a happy one-year anniversary as chanteuse supreme at Gentry. Thursday, July 28, stop in to Gentry on Halsted to celebrate with the masses. I know I'll be there. But don't come to see me. Come to see the sultry set of pipes that have been keepin' 'em drinkin' for one year.
