A world-renowned social and cultural historian, a leading car manufacturer and a famed radio talk show host will all be honored next month for their leadership and advocacy in the LGBT community at the Lesbian Community Cancer Project's 12th Annual Coming Out Against Cancer (COAC) ball.
The event, which takes place on Saturday, Feb. 7, at the South Shore Cultural Center, will celebrate the work and contributions of professor George Chauncey, Subaru of America and host of National Public Radio's 'Odyssey,' Gretchen Helfrich. LCCP will also recognize the extraordinary contributions of two longstanding community activists and LCCP volunteers, Gayle Birdsong and Mary Torres. These award winners will be honored during the VIP reception, which takes place at 6:30pm prior to the Ball at 8 p.m. (tickets on sale now at www.lccp.org).
Nine-time Grammy-nominated Meshell Ndegeocello is making a special trip to Chicago to spin records at the event. Ndegeocello will DJ, along with DJ Jahi Sundance, at LCCP, which is expected to draw a record turnout of nearly 2,500. Call (773) 561-4662. |
