Mark your calendars for the 2002 city Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame Tuesday, Oct. 15, 5:30 p.m., Chicago Cultural Center, 77 E. Randolph.

Individuals inducted this year: Amigas latinas co-founder Evette Cardona; writer C.C. Carter; Little' Jim's owner Jim Gates; activist Charles Edward Nelson II; Lambda Legal Defense Midwest Director Mona Noriega; Affinity's Board President Christina Smith; and Chicago Women in Trades Executive Director Lauren Sugerman.

Organizations: Affinity Community Services; Mattachine Midwest; NAMES Project, Chicago Chapter; Friend of the Community: State Rep. Lou Lang.

The Chicago Commission on Human Relations Advisory Council on Gay and Lesbian Issues named the 2002 inductees to the world's only known municipally sponsored gay and lesbian hall of fame. The announcement was made by Mayor Richard M. Daley, Commission Chair Clarence N. Wood, and ACGLI Chair Laura Rissover.

New members will be inducted at the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame's 12th annual ceremony Oct. 15. The event will be free and open to the public.

HBHC Awards

Howard Brown Health Center announced the winners of its Friend For Life awards: State Sen. John J. Cullerton, Lora Branch and Shane R. McCall.

The award will be presented at its annual gala "Club Midnight Blue" Oct. 26 at the Sheraton Chicago.

Branch has devoted more than 10 years to ensuring the health and well being of Chicago's LGBT community. She has worked to develop social marketing initiatives by combining TV and film with important public health messages. Recently, in collaboration with Black Cat Productions, Branch developed Kevin's Room, a film that dramatically chronicles a few weeks in the lives of six gay men, their friends and families. This film was awarded two first-place honors in the Black Filmmakers Hall of fame. She is proudly recognized as one of the first women conducting outreach at the onset of the AIDS epidemic. She has also successfully demonstrated her commitment to the City's youth through a variety of health promotional programs. Branch is currently the Director of the Office of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Health at the Chicago Department of Public Health.

Call (773) 388-8996.
