The Chicago Commission on Human Relations Advisory Council on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Issues has named the 2003 list of those selected for inclusion in the world's only known municipally sponsored hall of fame that honors members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities, announced Mayor Richard M. Daley, Commission Chair Clarence N. Wood, and ACGLI Chair Laura Rissover.
Nominees will be inducted at the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame's 13th annual ceremony, which will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21 at the Chicago Cultural Center, 77 E. Randolph St., 5:30 p.m.
Organizations: AIDS Legal Council of Chicago, About Face Theatre, Buddies', Chicago Black Lesbians and Gays.
Individuals: Angel Abcede, 39, dancer, for more than 10 years of combining professional artistry with social action through the Sex Police safe-sex troupe, gay Asian-themed performance works, and community journalism.
Chef Tania Callaway (1952-2000), caterer and chef, for nearly 30 years of service in the culinary arts, during which she fostered African American community cohesion through social events large and small and charitable support.
Armand R. Cerbone, Ph.D., 62, psychologist, for leadership in developing international guidelines for psychotherapy with lesbian, gay, and bisexual clients and for years of volunteer service to community organizations.
R. Sue Connolly, 56, banker, for leadership in advancing sexual-minority rights within the financial community and for much volunteer service and fundraising assistance to community organizations.
Robert Bonvouloir Foster (1955-1991), lawyer, for spearheading formation of the Lesbian and Gay Bar Association of Chicago, organizing law students, and endowing Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund's local office through a bequest.
Tonda L. Hughes, Ph.D., R.N., 49, researcher and educator, for more than 10 years of professional studies and advocacy regarding lesbian health needs, during which she has affected policy at local and national levels.
Patricia M. Logue, 43, lawyer and current interim legal director of Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund, for her leadership in public interest litigation promoting sexual minorities' rights in courts up to the U.S. Supreme Court.
John Pennycuff, 39, activist, for more than a decade of grassroots organizing, advocacy, and direct action in support of sexual minority rights within both civil and religious communities.
Laurence E. Spang, D.D.S., 54, dentist, for defending the treatment rights of HIV-positive practitioners and patients, developing clinics for such patients, and volunteer contributions to HIV-AIDS service organizations.
DJ Sheron Denise Webb, 51, disc jockey, for more than 30 years of musical entertainment that has strengthened the social fabric of the African American lesbian community.
Albert N. Williams, 52, theater artist, journalist, and teacher, for more than 30 years of award-winning arts criticism, reporting and editing of arts and sexual-minority news, and social activism through cultural and political groups.
Friend of the Community: The Graham Family, a mother, father, daughter, and son who have upheld minority rights within their church and for the past four years have waged a legal battle against perceived antigay discrimination by a church campground.
