Horizons Community Services, responding to the terrorist attacks on the U.S., released a statement noting its "great concern" about the "growing incidence of violence and harassment directed against people of...or perceived to be of...Arab, South Asian, and Middle Eastern descent or of the Islamic faith."

"The horrors ... must not be used to dehumanize or attack Middle Eastern, Arab, South Asian and Muslim Americans," said Executive Director Roger Doughty. "As an organization that has served victims of hate-motivated violence for many years, Horizons is all too familiar with the terrible consequences of such violence for individuals, their families, and their communities."

Horizons announced that it would open its 24-Hour crisis line to victims of violence or harassment based on national origin and religion also. The crisis line has served as a 24-Hour emergency response system for victims of violence and harassment against lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender people, and people with HIV/AIDS since 1988.

The Anti-Violence Project ( AVP ) crisis line operates 24 hours a day, 773-871-CARE.
