Personal PAC, a bipartisan political organization dedicated to electing pro-choice candidates in Illinois, has called on Republican state gubernatorial candidate Judy Baar Topinka to withdraw her invitation to host U.S. President George W. Bush, who the group calls 'the most anti-choice President in United States history.'
According to a press release from the organization, Topinka is slated to host Bush at the Drake Hotel, at 140 E. Walton, on Friday, July 7 at 12 p.m. The release goes on to state that Bush 'is the most anti-choice president in the history of the United States. President Bush is here to raise right-wing, anti-legal abortion money for Topinka.'
In addition, Personal PAC claims that this latest development is hypocritical of the candidate: 'Topinka claims to be pro-choice, yet this invitation to host the most hostile President in history to reproductive choice is just one of many examples of Topinka saying one thing and doing another, especially when it comes to choice.'
Personal PAC and Topinka share a history—and it is not an altogether pleasant one. A Nov. 30, 2005, Windy City Times article detailed how the organization attacked Topinka's abortion record. Among the group's claims is that, when she was an Illinois legislator, she voted to ban state employee health insurance coverage for abortion.
