The Hollywood Foreign Press Association's nominations were announced Dec. 11, the day after the Screen Actors Guild ( SAG ) nods were revealed.
Like the SAG Awards, the Golden Globe nominees are in the areas of film and television. However, the Globes nominees are further divided into the areas of drama and comedy/musical.
The Imitation Game ( about the life of the late gay codebreaker Alan Turing ) continued its awards run, snagging nods for Best Motion Picture-Drama, Best Performance By an Actor in a Motion Picture-Drama ( Benedict Cumberbatch ), Best Supporting Actress ( Keira Knightley ), Best Screenplay ( Graham Moore ) and Best Original Score-Motion Picture.

On the television side, The Affair, Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones, The Good Wife and House of Cards will compete for Best Television Series-Drama. Transparent will contend with Girls, Jane the Virgin ( a CW show whose lead actress, Chicago-raised Gina Rodriguez, also was nominated ), Orange Is the New Black and Silicon Valley for Best Television Series-Comedy/Musical.
Orange's Taylor Schilling received a nod for Best Performance By An Actress in a Television Series-Comedy or Musical. Uzo Aduba was nominated for Best Supporting Actress.
Larry Kramer's The Normal Heart will compete against Fargo, The Missing Starz, Olive Kitteridge and True Detective for Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television. Mark Ruffalo and out actor Matt Bomer received nods for best actor and supporting actor, respectively.
Another snub involved The Big Bang Theory's Jim Parsons. Transparent's Jeffrey Tambor is among those in the running for Best Performance By An Actor in a Television Series-Comedy or Musical.
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will host the Golden Globe awards telecast on NBC Jan. 11.
