Go Girl! Saugatuck, the premier women's weekend in the Midwest returns to the largest gay resort in the nation - The Dunes in Douglas, Michigan. Veteran LGBTQ comedian Mimi Gonzalez is the founder of the event which celebrates its fifth season, June 3-5, 2022 after a two year Covid hiatus. The event has averaged over 300 women every year (2016-2019) and regularly draws attendees primarily from Chicago and Detroit.
Guests are invited to The Dunes Resort dunesresort.com/ for all the activities of the Go Girl! Saugatuck women's weekend including:
pool parties
DJs from Detroit and Chicago
karaoke
the lip sync battle
the variety show, this year featuring Rapper D.S. Sense along with
drag kings
burlesque
workshops during the day
women vendors in the marketplace
Sunday brunch at Isabel's featuring spoken word and an open mic
a picnic on the beach
Gonzalez packs the weekend full of culture creating, new friend-making, dancing and celebration of a truly inclusive-of-all-women gathering. Gay men are welcome (it is their resort) and Go Girl! Saugatuck always follows the Memorial Day circuit party weekend. Mike Jones, one of The Dunes Resort owners said, "We needed a woman to produce our women's weekend. Mimi came in, rebranded it and does a fantastic job, selling out our place every year."
The pandemic forced the cancellation of all event productions at The Dunes but 2022 is proving to be a year of great returns based on ticket sales and lodging reservations. Since The Dunes sells out so quickly, a new partnership has formed with AmericInn www.wyndhamhotels.com/americinn/douglas-michigan/americinn-lodge-and-suites-douglas-saugatuck/overview , also on Blue Star Highway, a ten minute walk from The Dunes. CampIt Resort www.campitresort.com/ has been a sponsor since the beginning of Go Girl! Saugatuck. Only a few minutes away in Fennville, they offer options from rustic tent campsites to RV hookups to cabins where the LGBTQ family feeling has always centered their core mission.
Tickets are available at gogirlsaugatuck.com/ and currently, a 10% refund is being offered for weekend pass early bird purchases. The aim of Go Girl! Saugatuck is to become a "Midwest Dinah" (Dinah Shore LPGA Palm Springs weekend full of a thousand women
