Glee Live! danced, sang and waved at the screaming fans at the Allstate Arena consisting of mainly young girls and gay couples. Moms were also in attendance and seemed happy to chirp along to hits covered from the past, such as the Journey hit "Don't Stop Believin'" that opened the show.
Cheerleaders ran throughout the audience beforehand handing out barf bags because the pre-recorded video of Coach Sue Sylvester ( Jane Lynch ) warned everyone that they would need them after watching this show. Thankfully, we didn't.
The cast stayed pretty much in character for the concert. The audience seemed to have their favorite whether it was Puck ( Mark Salling ) rocking his guitar or Kurt ( Chris Colfer ) singing "I Want to Hold You Hand."
Versions of "Sing" and "Somebody to Love" really brought the group numbers together and pumped the energy way up.
The show was a spotlight for some of the performers to really show their vocal talents. "Ain't No Way" by Amber Riley and "Fireworks" by Lea Michelle brought down the roof. "Born This Way" had the Glee choir sporting shirts with big black letters such as "Likes Boys" on Chris and "I'm With Stupid" pointing below the belt on Mark's.
Lynch's video popped up again to introduce the Warblers led by Darren Criss for their "Teenage Dream" and "Raise Your Glass" covers.
Kevin "Artie" McHale stayed in his wheelchair for Michael Jackson's "P.Y.T." but then rose to a stand for the "Safety Dance."
Teaching the "Single Ladies" dance and duetting Judy Garland with Babs, Michele made Colfer the clear favorite from the crowd. Everyone exited the building before slushies could be thrown at them after the encore.
It will be interesting to see what the Glee cast will do for the future, whether it's one day singing covers in a Vegas act or 10 more seasons of the Fox hit. Chicago was one of the few lucky cities to see the live version of the show and three performances made an even bigger treat. Sure it had corny moments but the people who watch the show ate it up like cotton candy.
