'Macy's Glamorama 2008: Pop Candy Arcade' was so '80s—and that's not a bad thing. The 10th annual fashion show held on Aug. 22 at the Chicago Theatre, 175 N. State, incorporated live entertainment by '80s icon Cyndi Lauper and MC Hammer.

On the red carpet, Lauper gave specific instructions she would not be talking to the press. She sped walked her way past reporters and posed for a very short time before running inside the theatre. Earlier in the evening, actor Steve Guttenberg was sweating profusely, but was still a good sport, joking with reporters and posing for the cameras. The gorgeous actor Sanaa Lathan joked about the intense heat, and only requested a brief moment to touch up her make-up.
MC Hammer gave lengthy interviews about his participation, saying, 'I feel like it's a fantastic cause, and anytime you can get an organization as big as Macy's to help focus and support a cause, it's fantastic. I believe it shows a responsibility and it shows a commitment to the community of the organization.' Tickets sales of the annual event have raised more than $2 million, benefiting the Art Institute of Chicago.
Models strutted down the runway in installments to a nostalgic soundtrack wearing fall fashion by top labels such as Donna Karan, Celine, Marc Jacobs and Just Cavalli.
MC Hammer brought the audience to its feet, when he sang three of his hit songs, 'Turn This Mutha Out,' 'Too Legit to Quit' and the mega hit 'U Can't Touch This.'
Lauper appeared halfway into the show, lip-syncing her new song 'Into the Nightlife' and mustering the words 'See you later' as she ran backstage.
Lauper ended the show with the classic 'Girls Just Want to Have Fun.'
The afterparty, held on the seventh floor of the State Street Macy's, was a time-warp extravaganza, with a theme of the decade that brought us Pac Man, Rubik's Cube and MTV. New York City-based DJ Berrie spun a studio 54 inspired mix, and the Walnut Room was recreated into an elevated dance floor. Macy's Glamorama proved that what's old is new and, if this is a preview to fall, we have lots of fun and glamour to look forward to.
