Bust out that naughty satin and lace number—Chix Mix Productions is going back to its roots in hopes of throwing the biggest, sexiest Black Bra Party yet.
The Chicago women's production company recently announced that the 6th Annual Black Bra Party will be held Presidents' Day weekend, Feb. 19. After three years in Boystown, the annual party returns to the downtown's industrial area at one of the city's hottest nightclubs, Transit.
'Erotica' is the theme of this year's dance party, which will feature female dancers, three DJs and a pole-dancing performance group from St. Louis—Gravity Plays Favorites. There will also be a MySpace VIP room.
Chix Mix co-owners Kathleen Ulm and Julie Mosier didn't expect the Black Bra Party to become such a huge success when they first started it in 2001. Some predicted the event would fail, but when 1,000 women of all ages, races and states came out to Drink nightclub the first year, it was apparent the women's community was thirsty for a place to party.
Ever since, the Annual Black Bra Party has been a place where a very diverse crowd of women can come together to have a blast. 'It's an inclusive event,' said Ulm, who is also promotions manager for Windy City Media Group. 'Everybody is welcome.'
While giving women a fun outlet, Chix Mix also works within the LGBT community. The production company has worked with Illinois Gender Advocates and Amigas Latinas, helping both groups raise much-needed funds.
The yearly party was created during a time when there weren't any large parties for women at the bars. According to Ulm, this is partially because women don't go out as consistently as men, making it difficult for party promoters. The Chix Mix gals knew women would jump at the opportunity to slip into something sexy and party hard.
Look out for Chix Mix events every third weekend at Circuit. Soon, Chix Mix will be at DiChanos ( formerly known as The Patch ) in Calumet City.
Doors for the Black Bra Party will open at 9 p.m. Transit is located at 1431 W. Lake St. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased at www.ChixMixProductions.com .
