Chicago, IL The former Town Hall district police station, which has stood at the corner of Halsted and Addison since 1907, is set to become part of a housing development serving gay seniors.
The city will sell the old police station in Lakeview to Heartland Housing Inc. for one dollar, according to a report in the Chicago Sun-Times.
The deal to provide lower-income apartments for gay seniors is said to be a final favor for the LGBT community from Mayor Richard M. Daley, who leaves office on Monday.
Daley is recognized by many as one of the nation's most gay-friendly mayors. He is retiring after 22 years in office.
The Town Hall district station was replaced by a new high-tech 44,000 square-foot police station located at 850 W. Addison.
