Following Ricky Martel around one day led to the AIDS Foundation of Chicago where he works as the Housing Assistance Manager.
It was quick to see the important work that he does. He has developed a Web site ( www.direct2housing.org ) where case managers, social workers and the community can find the contact information, eligibility criteria and application process for supportive housing options. The Web site is like a Facebook for supportive housing providers where they can update their agency status as often as they wish with a simple click of the mouse.
Windy City Times caught up with Ricky later that night inside Charlie's, 3726 N. Broadway. It's at this bar where he first learned about the group he performs with, The Windy City Cowboys. It was obvious to see Ricky loves being a part of this group whose mission is to entertain with country and western fabulousness. Martel is active in his community by contributing his talents along with the group to festivals, parades, rodeos, and special events such as the Windy City Rodeo, The AIDS Run and Walk, and Halsted Street Market Days.
