Johnathan Maynard, a gay Chicago police officer, has been fired after the Chicago Police Board determined that he worked as a bouncer at Hydrate nightclub and participated in a lube-wrestling event while on convalescent duty.
According to findings published by the board, Maynard participated in a lube-wrestling event in November 2007, violating his convalescent duty restrictions.
Those findings further state that he was paid to work as a bouncer at Hydrate twice in the summer of 2008, also while on medical roll. He worked at Halsted Bar and Grill against his convalescent restrictions, records state.
Chicago police officers are prohibited from taking second jobs at businesses that primarily sell liquor.
Records also state that Maynard took time off work for physical therapy sessions that he did not attend.
Maynard denies any wrongdoing and plans to sue to get his job back, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. He also alleged that supervisors in the Town Hall District harassed him because he is gay,
Maynard did not immediately respond to a request from Windy City Times to comment.
