BIANCA AND LENA TO KISS
ON ALL MY CHILDREN
FIRST ON-SCREEN SAME SEX KISS IN DAYTIME TV HISTORY APRIL 23
ABC's ALL MY CHILDREN will make TV history Wednesday, April 23, with the first on-screen same-sex kiss in daytime television, it was announced Monday by Brian Frons, president, ABC Daytime.
'The theme of All My Children from the beginning is the belief that, as God's children, we are all bound to each other by our common humanity despite our many personal differences; that it is our failure to understand and respect those differences that causes most of life's pain and suffering. The Bianca story is our latest effort to dramatize that belief,' says the show's creator Agnes Nixon.
Since coming out in October 2000 as an openly gay teen, Bianca Montgomery (Eden Riegel), the youngest daughter of Erica Kane (Susan Lucci), has faced many trials and tribulations in her quest for love. When Bianca met Lena (Olga Sosnovska), questions arose regarding Lena's sexual orientation. As Bianca's feelings continued to grow, so did Lena's, even though Lena initially had ulterior motives. In a moment of truth and true love, Lena will come to terms with her feelings, giving Bianca her first on-screen kiss. AMC airs at noon.
BRITAIN'S VERY OWN 'JUST JACK!':
COMEDIAN SIMON HAPPILY
American visitors to London who make their way down to the basement of Soho's Bar Code to catch the club's weekly Comedy Camp are always shocked when they first see the show's MC Simon Happily—he's a dead ringer for Jack on Will & Grace. (And, yes, that's JACK, not Sean Hayes ... there IS a difference!).
When I asked Simon if he hears that he looks (and acts and sounds) like Jack, he laughed. 'And I thought I looked so much more like Karen! Yes, a lot of people say I look like 'Just Jack!' Someone else said exactly the same thing last night, except they added I was better looking (very sweet for a lesbian to say that I thought!).'
All joking aside, London's Time Out Magazine also made the comparison, calling him 'Britain's very own Just Jack!' and an American comedy promoter even suggested Simon quickly tour the States while Will & Grace is doing so well. A sample of Simon's set:
— 'As you've probably heard in the news, we're at war ... the ex-boyfriend and I.'
— 'Monica Lewinsky is now going to appear in a new TV show in the U.S. Apparently, she got a one million dollar advance for her book about Bill Clinton—but rumor has it she's already blown it.'
— 'I've never trusted (British politician) Michael Portillo. He was homophobic when in government, then beaten in an election by an out gay Labour candidate. He then decided to come out as having had some 'gay experiences' when he was at University before deciding to return to politics. AND HOW? In a BI-election!' More info: www.comedycamp.co.uk.
