The Chicago Force officially wrapped up its 2010 season with its annual team banquet, sponsored by Miller Lite and held in the West Loop at Latin Rhythms, a dance studio owned by Force player Sol Solis.
Offensive lineman Veronica Soper was named the 2010 Offensive MVP, while linebacker/defensive end Darcy Leslie captured Defensive MVP.
In addition, wide receiver Jeanette Gray was named Offensive Rookie of the Year and running back Carolyn Lee earned the OffensiveMost Improved award. Cornerback Melissa Whyms was named Defensive Rookie of the Year and linebacker Angie Bandstra was named DefensiveMost Improved.
The Force also recognized its 14 All-Stars from the 2010 season ( 12 players and two coaches ) with plaques.
"The evening was a lot of fun and it was great to revisit our successes from the past season," said Force General Manager Linda Bache. "It was nice to have everybody all together again."
The Force has tryouts for the 2011 season Dec. 18, and full information is available on the team's website ( www.chicagoforcefootball.com ) .
"We're excited to see how much new talent we can add to our team," for the 2011 season, Bache said. "We're looking for athletes over the age of 18. Football experience is a bonus, but is not necessary."
The Force will compete in 2011 in the Women's Football Alliance ( WFA ) , which is now the largest women's football league in the world with 62 teams. Text and photos by Ross Forman
