Boystown nightspot Sidetrack was the site of a Pride event that might have been unusual for such a spot.
However, the Field Museum event "Out in the Field: Slushies and Science," held June 20, successfully combined drinks with biology, geology and other brances of science. Presenters mostly talked about unusual aspects of gender/mating in the animal kingdom, including shapes of the penile bones of some mammals; the female hyena's "pseudophallus"; and the ability of some fishes to change genders.
Hearty Boys catered the event, and proceeds benefitted Project Fierce Chicago, a grassroots initiative aimed at creating affirming transitional housing for LGBTQ youth experiencing homelessness.
Incidentally, the museum has its own LGBT employee group called Outfielders. According to the museum's website, the group's " mission is to create a safe, welcoming place at The Field Museum dedicated to promoting the inclusion of people of all genders and sexual orientations."
