What: First in Green Building Requirements:
Evanston will move Tuesday night to become one of only a handful of cities nationwide to adopt a citywide, comprehensive green building ordinance following the "LEED" ( Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design ) Rating System. This previously controversial measure will cover ALL commercial construction projects of over 10,000 square feet. While some cities in Illinois, includingChicago and Normal, have started to address this issue, Evanston is moving to become theMidwest's leader in "green building." Evanston's plan is tied to the US Green Building Council's LEED Building Program, and follows last year's passage of Evanston's Climate Action Plan.
Same Sex Domestic Partnership Benefits
Evanston will move to become second largest city in Illinois after Chicago to offer employees same sex domestic partner benefits.
