Equality Illinois hosted its first ever transgender-specific event Nov. 13. The Transgender Community Social, held at The Glenwood in Rogers Park, drew a crowd of nearly 100 people.
Christina Kahrl, who sits on the board of Equality Illinois, chaired the event. "This is an opportunity to foster what we have in common, to help foster a sense of identity for a community that is so often frustrated by its differences," Kahrl told Windy City Times.
In an address to the crowd, Kahrl praised Equality Illinois for consistently supporting transgender inclusion in ENDA ( the Employment Non-Discrimination Act ) . She also said that Equality Illinois intended to create more programs for the transgender community, including a transgender youth event in the Spring.
