Gay columnist Meryl Cohn ( a.k.a. Ms. Behavior ) has won the 2009 Jane Chambers Playwriting Award for her new work, The Siegels of Montauk. Siegels features an LGBT-friendly Jewish family with three adult sisters, their mother and two friends who gather to close out the recently deceased father's beach house. Ms. Behavior is the nationally syndicated lesbian advice columnist with humor and tips about relationships, manners and sex.
Singer John Mayer is denying reports that he made out with another guy while in a gay club Oct. 10, according to Us Magazine. On Twitter, Mayer wrote, "Rumor check: went to gay bar in Palm Springs, yes. Had a blast. Danced my face off. Someone there planted a kiss on me? No." He added that he found the crowd at Toucans Tiki Lounge "even more respectful than in a straight club." However, Mayer once kissed blogger Perez Hilton.
Reel AffirmationsWashington, D.C.'s, LGBT film festivalkicked off Oct. 8 with the Quentin Crisp documentary An Englishman in New York, according to the Washington Blade. The festival will run through Oct. 24 and feature approximately 100 movies, including the lesbian short film Buttery Top, the AIDS documentary Fig Trees and the psychological thriller Pornography. Singer Belinda Carlisle has filmed a video in support of same-sex marriage while asking for donations for Maine's "No on 1" campaign, Advocate.com reported. In the video, Carlisle says that she is not only a public figure but is a mother of a gay son ( 17-year-old James Duke Mason ) . She says, "My son, James, is gay, and I want him and every other gay person out there to have the same opportunities and rights that I've had in life."
