Former Grey's Anatomy co-star Isaiah Washington is saying that ABC should have fired T.R. Knight. Washington told the Houston Chronicle that Knight, a gay actor, manipulated a controversy ( where Washington uttered an anti-gay slur ) in order to get a salary increase. Washington, who might sue, said that he initially used the slur 'during a disagreement with [ former co-star ] Patrick [ Dempsey ] . I apologized for that. We shook hands and went back to work.'
Placido Domingo, general director of the Los Angeles Opera, has said that Woody Allen will make his operatic directorial debut with the company during the 2008-09 season, according to the AP. Allen is slated to direct 'Gianni Schicchi,' one part of Puccini's 'Il Trittico.' The Exorcist director William Friedkin will helm the other two parts.
John Travolta is defending fellow Scientologist Tom Cruise's views about medicine and psychiatry, according to an Associated Press item. 'I don't disagree with anything Tom says,' Travolta told W Magazine. 'I still think that if you analyze most of the school shootings, it is not gun control. It is [ psychotropic ] drugs at the bottom of it.' In 2005, Cruise criticized Brooke Shields for taking antidepressants.
Gay gossip columnist Perez Hilton had his Web site, PerezHilton.com, shut down for several hours after the site's service provider received complaints about copyrighted pictures being posted, the Associated Press reported. The site is now up, thanks to a new host.
Actor Shemar Moore—formerly of the daytime serial The Young and the Restless and a current star of the nighttime series Criminal Minds—pled no-contest to a charge of driving under the influence, according to The Detroit News. Moore, who faced the same judge who put Paris Hilton in jail, received probation and a $1,400 fine.
A gay man may replace Rosie O'Donnell on The View, according to an item on TheBosh.com . Mario Cantone and Ross Matthews are both contenders to fill O'Donnell's shoes. Cantone, who will co-host on July 12, was on Sex and the City while Matthews, slated to co-host on July 17, is on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
Speaking of O'Donnell, the 'Price' isn't right for her. According to the Chicago Trribune, O'Donnell said that, despite a nice meeting with The Price Is Right's producers, she is no longer being considered to replace Bob Barker, who recently retired after being with the show 35 years. In a video on her Web site, she said, 'Well, here's the thing: I don't really need a job. I'm in a weird position. I don't need the money.'
