In a recent article published in the U.K. paper The Guardian, writer Alice Walker ( The Color Purple ) talked about a relationship she allegedly had with singer Tracy Chapman in the '90s, Out.com reported. Walker said that she wasn't interested in making their affair public to promote gay rights: 'I would never do that. ... It was delicious and lovely and wonderful and I totally enjoyed it and I was completely in love with her but it was not anybody's business but ours.'Walker plans to publish the journals she kept during the relationship.
Eileen Opatut has resigned as head of original programming for MTV Networks' ( MTVN's ) gay channel Logo, Variety has reported. Vice President Dave Mace will take over programming; Opatut had signed a first-look development deal with MTVN.
Minneapolis' Guthrie Theater will run Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie Jan. 20-March 25—and it will feature Tony Award-winning actress Harriet Harris and Queer as Folk star Randy Harrison, according to a theater press release. Tickets are $22-$52 and are on sale through the Guthrie box office at 612-377-2224 or toll-free at 877-44-STAGE.
A federal judge has thrown out a civil rights lawsuit the Milwaukee Gay Arts Center filed after police shut down its production of Naked Boys Singing, WBAY.com reported. The police department's vice squad shut down the nude musical revue in August 2005 because its organizers didn't have a license, but the city allowed the show to resume in October 2005.
An article on AfterElton.com has led NBC to notify readers that Zach, Thomas Dekker's character on the NBC show Heroes, is not gay, Advocate.com reported. The article speculates that either someone—possibly a person at the network—took out any story lines that would involve addressing the sexual orientation of Zach, who plays the sidekick of high school cheerleader Claire Bennet.
Artist Megan Gedris has won a grant to produce a print version of the lesbian-themed Web comic strip 'YU+ME,' according to Advocate.com . 'YU+ME' follows the life of Fiona, an unpopular girl at West Catholic High who is confused by her growing feelings for another girl.
Rosie O'Donnell's at it again. She and mogul/pageant owner Donald Trump have engaged in a war of words over his handling of the Miss USA uproar, the Associated Press reported. On her show The View, O'Donnell said Trump's news conference granting forgiveness to boozing beauty queen Tara Conner had annoyed her. ' [ He ] left the first wife, had an affair, left the second wife, had an affair. Had kids both times, but he's the moral compass for 20-year-olds in America,' she said. Trump replied, 'I'll most likely sue her for making those false statements—and it'll be fun. ... I look forward to taking lots of money from my nice fat little Rosie.' |
