Oscar-nominated transgender actor Elliot Page is on the latest cover of Time magazineand he wants to be an advocate for others, NBC News reported.
"My privilege has allowed me to have resources to get through and to be where I am today, and of course I want to use that privilege and platform to help in the ways I can," he said.
In December, Page shared a letter announcing that he was trans and said that while he felt profound happiness about sharing his story, he was also scared "of the invasiveness, the hate, the 'jokes' and of the violence."
The actor, who stars in Netflix's The Umbrella Academy, said that downtime during quarantine helped him accept his gender identity.
In a statement sent to Windy City Times, GLAAD Director of Transgender Representation Nick Adams said, "Not only is Elliot Page a fine actor, he is also an advocate for equality and justice who continues to educate the world about who trans people really are and about why the current barrage of anti-trans bills promoted by fearmongering politicians are so harmful and unnecessary."
