El poder del Internet en Latinoamerica

Según los Estados Unidos se mueve a una política derechista, y un fervor religioso se apodera de la nación Norte Americana, nuestros vecinos al sur del Río Grande están reaccionando diferentemente. Anteriormente aislados del resto del mundo y controlados por la Iglesia Católica, están despertando al mundo moderno a través del Internet para organizarse en contra de leyes arcaicas de la sodomía.
Tomemos el ejemplo de CEPRESI, el grupo de derechos GLBT de Nicaragua, que esta luchando por decriminalizar la sodomía en la republica centroamericana. El código penal de Nicaragua fue enmendado en el 1992 y la sección 204 provee hasta tres anos de cárcel por cualquier acto sodomita, aun si es cometido en la privacidad de el hogar propio.
Auspiciados por el grupo Norte Americano GLAAD, CEPRESI esta organizando su primera gran Parada y Festival GLBT. Increíblemente, el impedimento mayor para lograr el festival no es el código penal de Nicaragua: el problema era que en Nicaragua no existe ningún sitio para comprar la bandera del arco iris GLBT. Cuando Aníbal José Martínez, miembro de CEPRESI, explico el problema a GLAAD, GLAAD los refirió a nuestro portal del Internet: The Pink Agenda ( www.pinkagenda.com ) . Tras una serie de correspondencias electrónicas, nosotros en el Pink Agenda decidimos donar una bandera GLBT a Nicaragua ( 5 pies por 8 pies ) . Hacerla llegar a Nicaragua fue otra historia. Nicaragua es un país donde las direcciones se calculan a cuantos metros del edificio central de la ciudad esta localizada la residencia. Mandamos la bandera, pero al no poner la dirección completa, el correo nicaragüense nos la devolvió aquí a Chicago. Telefoneamos a Aníbal José y tras corregir nuestro error, la volvimos a echar al correo. Dos semanas mas tardes, llego a Managua nuestra bandera.
A pesar de que pueden ser arrestados por marchar, a pesar de que la policía puede darle una redada al festival – CEPRESI esta listo para su Festival y Parada. Cuando la Asociación de Latino Men for Action ( ALMA ) y Amigas Latinas aquí en Chicago se enteraron de esta historia decidieron que ellos también desean contribuir con nuestros hermanos nicaragüenses. En estos momentos, ambas organizaciones están recolectando banderillas pequeñas GLBT para que cada participante en Nicaragua marche con su propia bandera.
Nosotros, los latinos que vivimos aquí en Chicago, que asumimos que nuestros derechos civiles están garantizados, nos olvidamos de la lucha que todavía están haciendo nuestros hermanos Latinoamericanos. A pesar de que en Nicaragua la homosexualidad es una ofensa criminal; en el 24 de junio del 2005 un festival titulado: 'Festival Cultural Nicaragüense por la diversidad sexual' se presentara desde las 14 horas hasta las 21 horas. Yo exhorto a todos lo latinos aquí en Chicago y en el resto de Latinoamérica a que se unan en solidaridad con nuestros hermanos nicaragüenses. Comuníquense con ellos, ayúdenlos como mejor puedan, y déjenles saber que están unidos con ellos en espíritu en ese deseo del derecho universal a la igualdad. |
