I'll be the first to admit it: When it comes to clairvoyants, I'm a skeptic.
However, Dougall (pronounced DEW-gull) Fraser just might convert me. Fraser, who recognized his clairvoyance as a teen, stands out from his peers in more ways than one. Not only is Fraser openly gay, but he wants you to discover your inner psychic. He holds workshops across the country and has helped many uncover their own extrasensory abilities. I spoke with the extremely affable Fraser and discussed colors, harmonic tones, and soulmates.
Windy City Times: You were on The John Walsh Show. What was that like?
Dougall Fraser: Ultimately, it was wonderful —but I was really nervous because they were highly skeptical of me. There was this [feeling] that I had to prove myself. Originally I was supposed to have a small segment on a show about people with interesting careers. Then, they had me meet the staff and decided to do the entire hour with me. That's a lot of pressure but it ended up being a lot of fun.
WCT: Are you clairvoyant?
DF: Clairvoyance is my specialty. A clairvoyant has psychic abilities that manifest themselves in visual form. When I'm talking with someone, I see pictures or images. Everything I do is visual. That's really how my gift began. When I was younger, I'd see colors around people. Then I studied color therapy and meditation and learned how to interpret the images I'm seeing. There are so many people who give their power away to psychics that I want to show them that being clairvoyant is nothing special and is something simple that I can teach everyone to do.
WCT: So everyone has this ability?
DF: Correct. It's cool because, in my workshops, most people assume they're not going to see a thing and I lead them through a really basic process and that day, everyone will see colors. Some people even see names and dates around people. Everyone is inherently psychic. Most of us manifest our psychic abilities when it comes to fear. I've read where people have been [attacked] and knew that it was going to happen but they felt guilty. I had a friend who was going to adopt a baby and she was working with this adoptive mother to whom she gave all this money. After a while, [my friend] found out that this woman wasn't even pregnant and was stealing her money. I asked her what was the first thing that passed through her mind when she saw a picture of this woman and she thought the photo looked like a mug shot. ... We're really not used to getting psychic impressions that we ignore them throughout the day. The only difference with someone like myself is that I'm constantly listening to them. I don't ignore anything.
WCT: Are some of the things you listen to wrong—or are you 100% correct?
DF: It depends on the situation. In order to reach the goal of becoming psychic, I have to quiet my mind. I have to let go of mental chatter and clutter. When I'm sitting with a client and in a meditative space, everything I see is pretty much right on. When you're dealing with someone else's life, there's only so much I can see for you because there's still an element of surprise and free will that comes into play. So I can outline the theme of your life; I know what you're going to do for a living, what kind of relationships you're going to have, and what your roadblocks are. The full details are up to you. It's like reading a book jacket [for me]; it's up to the clients to read the pages.
WCT: You know, I'm a little nervous talking with you because I feel like you're analyzing me right now.
DF: (Laughs) Everybody says that! To be honest, the social aspect of my life is very frustrating. People are nervous around me; they don't even want to make eye contact with me. They think I can read their minds then and there. It's funny because, even in the beginning of our relationship, my boyfriend had a lot of questions like 'What can you see?' However, there's no such thing as a psychic spy. I can't tell what you're thinking and I don't know what's going on around you. If I pick up on something, it's typically because you're ready to hear it.
WCT: Now how does a clairvoyant hone his skills?
DF: Well, it's like exercise. The more you work a muscle, the stronger and tighter it becomes. I practiced. When I felt blue around someone, I had to ask questions to figure out what that color meant. Now, there are certain symbols that I see on a regular basis. If I see a yellowish-gold glow around someone, nine times out of 10 that person's self-employed. If I see blue around someone, that person is probably being lied to. If I see green around a woman at a certain place, it means she's pregnant. All of that comes from memory and research. Now, because I've read for thousands of people, I can give a really good reading in 15 minutes.
WCT: So you look at a person's aura?
DF: What I do is listen to the sound of their voices. Then, I tune in to their specific energies. My goal ultimately is to make sure that you're living an optimal existence and I do this by looking at your strengths and weaknesses. (Are you in a good relationship? Are you taking care of yourself physically?)
WCT: Is there one area people tend to ask you about more than others?
DF: Everybody asks about love. (Chuckles) ... What I find is people have misconceptions about soulmates. Everybody believes there is one person who will complete [him or her]—and that is completely untrue. You can have more than one soulmate. Just because you spend six months six years, or 16 years with someone doesn't mean you were with your soulmate. A soulmate is someone who you can learn something from. ... When the cycle of learning is complete, you move forward.
WCT: Is it possible for a person to not have a soulmate?
DF: No. Hands down, no.
WCT: So you work with peoples' harmonic tones. What exactly are harmonic tones?
DF: Each person's energy vibrates at a different level and that energy has a sound to it that manifests itself in your voice.
WCT: Now, getting back to connections, is it possible to meet up with three soulmates in one night?
DF: (Laughs) That sounds like a soul trick.
