—Batman: The Movie ( July 1 ) : In anticipation of The Dark Knight coming to theaters this summer, Fox Home Entertainment is releasing the 1966 campy classic featuring TV's Batman, Adam West ( now famous for playing the mayor of Quahog on TV's Family Guy ) . DVD extras include a segment on the Batmobile and a pop-up trivia track.
—Beladi: A Night at the Pyramids ( already out ) : Chantal Chamandy may not be known to many U.S. residents, but the Egyptian-born singer has a large international following. This DVD captures Chamandy's historic performance in Egypt—on Sept. 7, 2007, she became the first person allowed to have a taped concert at the base of The Pyramids on the Giza plateau.
—Catherine Deneuve 5-Film Collection ( June 10 ) : This unique compilation, available through Lionsgate, features five of the legendary French actress' most memorable classic films, including Le Sauvage and Hôtel des Amériques, for which Deneuve received César Award nominations, as well as Manon 70, Le Choc and Fort Saganne.
—Dante's Cove: Season Three ( June 3 ) : The third season of Dante's Cove—here! TV's campy melange of sex, horror, the supernatural, homosexuality—will soon be out, complete with extras such as a photo gallery, bloopers and a backlot featurette. This season is also when Dante's Cove becomes a bit more 'rainbow coalition,' thanks to new actors Jensen Atwood ( 'Noah's Arc' ) and Calvin Klein model Jenny Shimizu. Also, Reichen Lehmkuhl joins the cast, because there aren't enough hot people on this show.
—Exes & Ohs: The Complete First Season ( already out ) : Exes & Ohs, television's first-ever scripted dramedy about lesbians, has its first season out on DVD. Set in Seattle, the series follows the ups and downs of five lesbian friends; actors include Heather Matarazzo and Angela Featherstone. If there's one complaint for fans, it's that the first season only has six ( half-hour ) episodes. Extras include featurettes and interviews.
—Forgiving the Franklins ( already out ) : This movie—a comedy that is part morality tale, part sex romp—has already won over a slew of critics. Dad Frank, mother Betty, and football-playing son Brian are members of a conservative church who are changed forever after a fateful car crash that sends them to meet their maker, a very unorthodox Jesus. What ensue are rampant sex, including a same-sex encounter in a locker room ( with gay porn star Zak Spears ) ; a new appreciation for ice; and a stunning ending.
—Hot Nude Yoga for Beginners ( already out ) : If ever a DVD title said it all, this would be the one. Disc one, entitled 'Virgin,' is designed for the beginner yoga student or the yogi who wishes to take a more gentle approach to his practice. The second disc, entitled 'Afternoon Delight,' is designed to help erase stress; however, just seeing the men here might have the same effect. See www.HotNudeYoga.com for more.
—Meet the Spartans ( June 3 ) : This spoof of the movie 300 features Carmen Electra; a bald, fat, hairy Xerxes; and, yes, warriors ( including Kevin Sorbo ) sporting those famous abs. Armed with nothing but leather underwear and a flowing red cape, Leonidas ( played by Sean Maguire ) leads his ragtag army to defend their homeland, delivering outrageous send-ups of films such as Ghost Rider, Transformers, Spider-Man 3 and Casino Royale, and TV shows such as 'Ugly Betty' and 'American Idol.' As for the extras, guys might want to check out 'Prepare for Thrusting,' a workout spoof that shows the actors getting ready for their physical scenes—while only wearing loincloths. —The Onion Movie ( June 3 ) : You've read the publication—now see the movie. 'The Onion Movie presents a hard look at world events, cultural fads and curious human behavior, reporting on topics that most news programs wouldn't dare touch'—at least, according to the press release. Extras include deleted scenes and outtakes.
—Raw Spice ( July 1 ) : It's the story of the formation of The Spice Girls in 1994; it was filmed two years before the group made its mark with the CD Wannabe. There are interviews with the girls ( back then ) and new interviews with people who helped them along the way. Wanna bet there's some cattiness?
—Storm ( May 27 ) : Gut-punching action, gory murders and Matrix-style special effects are all in this award-winning Swedish movie. ( It won the Audience Award for Best Film at the 2005 Stockholm Film Festival. ) Donny is a 'slacker' whose life takes a terrifying turn when a fiery-haired woman enters his life, possessing a box which may hold the answers to human existence. With English subtitles.
—Weeds: Season Three ( June 3 ) : America's favorite pot-dealing soccer mom is back, coinciding with the fourth-season premiere June 16 on Showtime. The DVD set includes all 15 episodes and has special features such as featurettes, commentaries, trivia tracks and a gag reel. In addition, the people behind Weeds is keeping it 'green'—the DVDs will be in packaging made from 100 percent recycled paper and plastic water bottles.
